Annoyed. (Though, not about TIAS Days 13 and 14)

Gah.

I am so annoyed.

Why?

This is why:
Yes, that is what it looks like, about a quarter of a ball of size 80 thread...
I was all ready to start on a new doily. I was really excited, it was going to be a challenge but something I wanted to do. It was going to be pretty.

So I got started...ring 1, fine. 2nd ring (no RW, no chain)...tat tat tat, start to close the ring...SNAP.

This happened FOUR TIMESSSSSSSS!!!!!!

So, I threw the ball, thread snapped rings, shuttle, everything across the room. (Literally--it made me feel much better, although it didn't solve the problem.)

Another ball of "bad" thread.

Based on the helpful comments people left me, I did a little bit of a strength test on a number of balls of size 80 thread I ordered in October... 3 (including two that I got on purpose to make this project I was going to start on) of the 8 that I tested were "bad." I have 8 other balls still in the package that I'm scared to open because they might be "bad" too.

UGH!!!!

In related news, my 10% off coupon came in the mail this week, so I want to order some new thread...thinking I'll be moving to size 40, it seems to break less often... :/

In much happier news, I'm still enjoying Jane's TIAS:
Day 13

Day 14
I still have no clue--the idea of a sailboat still looks good, but I think Jane still has some tricks up her sleeves.

Finally, I leave you with a picture of something that made me smile a lot this week:
Happy Olympics!

  1. I think a note to the thread supplier and tell them they sold you a bad lot, you might get your money back or at least some of it.
Love the tea cup and pot, I have been watching some of it, and have enjoyed some of it.

    1. It has been very interesting to see the Olympics from the Russian point of view. This is the first time I've been in the country where the Olympics are being held (besides when I was growing up in the US, of course.)

  2. Love the little tea pot she is so cute, I don't think they will ever go out of style these little dolls! Sorry about the thread, I orders several balls of lizbeth thread recently and have not use them yet (in size 80) hope I don't run into same problem. Before that I only order 2 to make those African violet flowers (on my blog) that was okay, but you got me worried :( Take care! Carollyn

    1. Yes, the matryoshka dolls are adorable. I haven't bought any for myself yet, but I'm sure I will before we leave Russia. :) I've never had this issue with Lizbeth before, and I don't anticipate I will again...hope not, anyway! :)

  3. I WANT THAT TEA POT. Badly.

I second the suggestion to appeal to HandyHands or whomever you bought that thread from--complain and see if you can get your money back. I feel your pain again, Kristen!

    1. Everybody loves the teapot...it's sold out in all the stores here, I was apparently really luck to find her! :)

  4. I agree, contact the thread supplier and let them know what is going on. Best of luck with the doily when you get a chance to start it.

  5. Oh dear, I would be annoyed too! Very disappointing when you're all set to begin and have bought the thread specifically for the project.

    1. Yup. Oh well, it could be way, way worse. I suppose bad thread is what you call a First World problem. :)
